Stage 4 Whipple Cobra Jet

Inlet Sound Tube Kit Installation Guide SKU 505

This Kit requires that the firewall is drilled.

  1. 1 x hole saw
  2. 1 x Blade
  3. 1 x Sound Tube
  4. 1 x wide groove (firewall) rubber grommet
  5. 1 x narrow groove (inlet) rubber grommet
  6. 1 x 1” hose barb fitting
  7. 1 x diaphragm cap
  8. 1 x greease

This kit offers higher levels of rotor sound (whine) within the cabin due to the direct path from the CJ inlet through the firewall.

Fold the carpet down in the driver side footwell behind the brake pedal to the left of the steering column & secure by inserting a small screw as shown in the image through the carpet.

Pull the retaining clip off the carpet stud to enable the cutting of the insulation.

Cut the insulation along the horizontal line with supplied blade.

Tuck the insulation down in the driver side footwell behind the brake pedal to the left of the steering column. Tuck the insulation up and down behind itself.

Use a center punch to mark the drilling point for the hole. Draw a line across from the steering column bracket point. Draw a second vertical line approximately ¼” from the raised sheet metal contour as shown the image.

To determine the exact point, you will be able to feel (using your fingers) After using the center punch to mark the drill entry point, drill a pilot hole first then using the supplied drill bit at low speed and using windex as lubrication and cooling to avoid (overheating) and damage to the drill bit. Drill on low speed and keep pumping the windex flooding the bit.

Make sure the drill and hole saw is flush with the fire wall sheet metal as not to catch and edge and damage drill bit. Drill all the way through with the bit. See video below for drilling.

Use protective cloth or paper towel taped to the firewall to catch the drill debris and filings produced during the drilling process. Vacuum filings after drilling.

Install the supplied wider grooved grommet working into the hole which was cut in the firewall. Use supplied grease on the bare metal edges for protection. Add some grease to the grooves of the grommet to prevent corrosion.

Install the sound tube through the fire wall hole and grommet first, it should be possible to fit your entire arm into the space and your hand all the way to the fire wall. A little grease in the grommet or WD40 will aid in pushing the sound tube hose end through the grommet. Use fingers to pinch in the end of the tube and insert into the hole with a twisting motion. Electrical tape can be wrapped around the end of the sound tube hose to reduce the tube diameter and aid insertion into the grommet.

It may be necessary to go inside (the footwell area) to pull the hose end through to a depth of about 1 ½ “ using pliers.

Drilling the inlet pipe in the location between the JET letters as pictured below. Drill with supplied drill bit on the side of the inlet pipe facing the firewall. The inlet pipe should be removed and filter and MAF removed before drilling pipe as not to get any fillings in the inlet path. Clean pipe as needed after drilling. Pipe and filter are remove by taking the driver front wheel off and the wheel well liner, this gives access to the filter which needs to be removed before the CJ inlet can be pulled out.

After rubber Grommet is installed push the 1” hose barb into the grommet from the inside with supplied grease to help seat and seal. SEE VIDEO BELOW
